Typically, a non-custodial parent asks a court to order reunification therapy after one or more children stop following an stipulated or court-ordered parenting plan. The preferred parent may claim that the children simply do not want to see the rejected parent, and the rejected parent may accuse the preferred parent of “parental alienation.” Family intervention therapy is designed to cautiously address the reasons for estrangement and/or alienation, and work with the child(ren) exhibiting "resist-refuse" dynamics.
