Reunification Therapist/Family Intervention Therapist, Florida
2016 - present. Reunification therapy - or Family Intervention Therapy - is designed to repair a parent-child relationship which has been disrupted either during or after a high conflict divorce. Typically, a non-custodial parent asks a court to order reunification therapy after one or more children stop following an stipulated or court-ordered parenting plan. The preferred parent may claim that the children simply do not want to see the rejected parent, and the rejected parent may accuse the preferred parent of “parental alienation.” Family intervention therapy is designed to cautiously address the reasons for estrangement and/or alienation, and work with the child(ren) exhibiting "resist-refuse" dynamics. This is a Court-ordered role requiring specialized training, designed to address the reasons for a child's anxiety, discomfort or anger regarding timesharing with a non-preferred parent.
Qualified Parenting Coordinator, Florida
2007 – present. State of Florida Qualification, through the University of South Florida’s Dispute Resolution Center. Design and implement parenting plans and assist high-conflict parents in the resolution of disputes in divorce and post-divorce situations. Educate parents regarding children’s developmental needs, the impact of divorce, effective communication skills, cooperative co-parenting skills, efficient time-sharing and conflict resolution skills. Empowered to make binding decisions without expensive court involvement in many common post-divorce disputes.
Parenting Plan Evaluator/Social Investigator, Florida
2005 – present. Recognized in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk County family law courts as an expert witness in child custody, parenting plan evaluations, social investigations and home studies, and reunification therapy. Conduct court-ordered social investigations and parenting plan evaluations during high-conflict divorces. Write detailed investigation reports and make recommendations to assist the Court in designing parenting plans that are in the best interests of the child. Also conduct court-ordered reunification therapy in cases of estrangement or alienation.

2003 – present. Certified by the Florida Supreme Court to conduct all forms of family mediation, including divorce mediation, child custody and support concerns, property settlement, family disputes, etc. Also mediate church disputes to avoid litigation and division in church settings.

2007 – present. Consult with attorneys and litigants in family law, criminal and civil courts. Work-product review of parenting plan evaluations, social investigations, and time-sharing schedules. Review trial documents and advise litigants during divorce and other family law litigation. Provide mental health related advice, develop deposition/trial questions and strategy, and assist attorneys throughout litigation process. Serve as expert witness in family law matters such as time-sharing, parental alienation, developmental needs assessment, child development concerns, autism spectrum disorders, child abuse/neglect issues, and involvement of Florida Department of Children & Families. Board Member for Statewide Florida Chapter of Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (FLAFCC).
2010 – 2017. Served as Director and Secretary on Board of statewide chapter of national organization dedicated to the development and support of professionals in the family law arena (mediators, judges, attorneys, parenting coordinators, custody experts, etc.). Served on Regional Planning Committee, responsible for developing regional trainings across the state of Florida and assisted with developing pre-conference trainings and material for 2011 National Conference (held on Orlando, June 2011). Also served on committee revising and submitting proposed law/rule changes/revisions to legislature.
Founding Board Member for “BUDDY BASEBALL, INC” special needs baseball league, Temple Terrace, Florida.
2009 – 2015. Founding Director on Board of non-competitive baseball league for developmentally challenged students from Pre-K through High School. Responsible for Board development, development/revision of Charter documents, Policies & Procedures, public relations and league oversight. Contributed to Board decision-making, advised and collaborated with school system and related organizations, oversaw budgetary needs and expenditures, and assisted in long-term planning for the new organization. Also served as Lead Special Needs Advisor, responsible for training and oversight of all special needs advisors, volunteers and “Buddies” partnered with players. Organization’s “Commissioner” was awarded Temple Terrace “Citizen of the Year” award for 2010.

2009 – 2011. Founding Director and Chair of Board Development Committee of a 501(c)3 corporation designed to provide specialized and comprehensive treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Employs specially trained professionals targeting 18-month to 5-year-old clients in an intensive, behaviorally based early intervention treatment model. Founding Board Member for “ACADEMY AT THE FARM, INC.” Charter School, Dade City, Florida
1999 – 2005. Founding Director of a 501(c)3 corporation developing a special-needs focused charter school on Pasco County farmland. Currently serving 180 children (Pre-K through 6th grades), incorporating typical students and students with various developmental disorders in a classroom inclusion model. Employs specially trained teachers and therapists, offers equine therapy with farm’s horses, and focuses on natural world themes in all educational and artistic curriculums. Responsible for fund raising, operational and budgetary oversight, school development.
Human Rights Advocacy Committee, Department of Community Affairs, Tampa, Florida
1993 – 1995. Governor appointment; volunteered approximately 10 hours/week as advocate for clients of Health & Rehabilitative Services (HRS) who filed complaints against HRS service providers, HRS employees, foster homes service providers, care and custody cases, etc., where issues of abuse and/or neglect was alleged by complainant. Broad statutory authority to enter facilities, interview staff and clients, examine records; responsible for investigation and report of all findings to Statewide committee.

1981 – 1983. Salaried 20-hours/week research assistant to Charles Spielberger, Ph.D., author and researcher in smoking-related behavior. Conducted and scored surveys, coded and conducted statistical analysis on resulting data, prepared draft copies and edited material published in books and journals. Assisted in development of STAXI (State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory), and correlated smoking behavior to anxiety and anger expression data.

1981 – 1983. Trained in communication/listening skills, crisis intervention, suicide counseling, rape counseling, and drug/alcohol crisis intervention. Supervised the recruitment/selection/training of all new telephone counselors, conducted workshops for dorm Resident Assistants and SAFE Team. Served 12 hours per week on HELPLINE, a state-licensed hotline and referral service sponsored by USF.
